City Bus Advert

Advertising is a form of communication used to encourage or persuade an audience to continue or take some new action. Most commonly, the desired result is to drive consumer behavior with respect to a commercial offering.

The message of our advertisement is too try and show people what are course is about and what we do in it, also some people have never heard of it, so those people will be able to see what its about. The main message for the advert is to try and sell the course to people to make them want to do it.

I looked at several other colleges other than plymouth art, to see how they advertise interactive media in game arts. What I found, was that they wrote quite a bit about the course but everything around this writing was really boring and didnt stand out. whereas Plymouth Art College had a really interesting background that actually moved as well, and it made everything a lot more artistic.

This advert uses the same technique we've learnt with what he's done with the text, in this advert it looks really good I think, But in my opinion I would say its quite hard to read because there is so much going on and it doesn't give you enough time to read it. I also think the music fits well with the advert because its an advert about music.

I thought this advert was really cool because it all fits with the theme and it looks right. I thought the text at the end saying 'unleash the beast' worked well the sound of a monster of some sort at the beginning, also the foot prints gave a nice effect to the advertisement.

I thought this advert was really cool. The soundtrack and all the bright colours suited really well, and it has the same kind of mood that the coca cola adverts have on the tv, which is a good thing. I really liked the the text that writes itself during the video  I thought that was really cool. I really like the way all the lines of colour shoot out of the coke can at the end as well, i think it gives a really nice effect.

On this link you can find a lot of his work, he also illustrates. I quite like his work because, even though it looks basic it also has a sort of weird look to it, and in a funny way as well. I really liked the stuff he did for E4 music. It was really weird to watch and quite funny in a way. But it really looked like an E4 kind of advert  and suited it very well. I think the method of stop motion that he used gave a very good effect aswell.

Questionnaire

Have you heard of interactive media in game arts?

do you know what it is?

what comes to mind when you think of the course?

do you catch a bus or other transport?

does your transport have a tv to show ads? or other way?

do you think the advert should have students work in it?

 more information, or more images?

keep it simple, or put loads of information in?

what industry do you think you can go into after the course?

who do you think the audience is?

Results:
When people heard the name of the course they thought of games, computers, 3D modeling, drawing, and concepts. sounds hard and technical. They thought that it should have a lot of visuals and of students work, not so much information about the course because as the advert will probably be quite short, I felt and other people felt that we should just give a website at the end with an email and number for the people who are interested in what the course looks like can go and check it out.

This is what are final video looks like, we have done one with a soundtrack over but found it quite difficult making it sound right with the video. We had an idea of a soundtrack from the start and thats how we sort of made are advertisement around that, but found it difficult making a 1:30 song fit a 30sec ad.

Overall though I think the ad looks pretty good and there isnt much improvements we could make, we found it quite hard working with only 30secs but then we thought that actually it is pretty long for an advertisement.

After Effects basics

Firstly I had to go to file-import, to import the piece of video I wanted.
Then I had to go to the composition tab and create a new composition.
Once a composition had been created, I then dragged my video from the side onto the composition.

Firstly I opened the image I wanted in a new composition.
Then I went into colour correction then hue and saturation.
Then on the left side, the hue and saturation panel came up. I ticked colourise, then adjusted the slider on colourise hue, then moved the timeline a little further and repeated the process.

Firstly i went into composition, new composition and created a lens flare.
Then I went into layer, new text layer and positioned it on the canvas then typed my name into it.

Then I placed a layer mask over the text so that it covers it.
Then I animated my lens flare. I did this by going to a certain point on the timeline then went into my lens flare options and turned the brightness up a little every time I went to a different point on the timeline so that it animates the flare. then I did the opposite of this so that it fades out, then back in.

Then, I chose a spot where I wanted my text to be revealed, then started removing the mask every few seconds to reveal some parts of the text.

Here is the final result.
